This weekend, the girls are taking over downtown Palmer. It's the fifth annual Who Let the Girls Out event, and there promises to be something for everyone starting Friday afternoon and continuing in to Saturday.

The event, organized by the local merchants in Palmer, has gained steam each year, getting bigger and better, with more events included. This year, if you can imagine it, it's probably happening in Palmer - everything from a 5K race to fiber arts demonstrations and business seminars.

From the arty end of things, there's no shortage of events. There are classes on 3D op-up box card making, sales at local galleries, scarf tying demonstrations, shoe painting tips and even a parade of wearable art, as well as a purse auction benefitting the Santa Cops and Heroes organization.

Palmer is also the place to be for live music all weekend long. Vagaond Blues, the Downtown Palmer Deli, Klondike Mike's and The Caboose all have solid lineups of musicians playing throughout the weekend, including during the afternoon on Saturday.

Who Let The Girls Out gets off to a fast start on Friday with a 5K race. You can register from 4-6 p.m. at Active Soles, and the race starts at 6:15 at the Palmer Pavilion.
