Hatcher Pass Recreational Opportunities
Visitors to the area enjoy a wealth of hiking, mountain biking and year-round multi-use trails. Some favorites include Reed Lakes, Graigle Creek and Gold Mint trails. Activities include hiking, berry picking and recreational gold panning. As the headwaters of the Little Susitna originate here, kayakers enjoy the challenge of the "Little Su's" Class V whitewater.
Winter sports enthusiasts flock to Government Peak and the Mile 16 Trail where they can telemark and cross-country ski as well as snowboard. A snowcat operation provides alpine skiing opportunities. Snowmobiling is allowed in designated areas and is very popular west of the Pass.
Contact the Alaska Division of Parks Mat-Su/CB Area Office (pic@dnr.state.ak.us) for a brochure on summer and winter recreational opportunities.
