Campgrounds & RV Parks
Traveling through Alaska by RV or motorhome is a excellent way for families, nature lovers and travelers with pets to conveniently experience Alaska wilderness and local culture.With more than two dozen public and private RV parks and campgrounds, recreation sites and an endless variety of things to see and do, the Mat-Su is a top choice for travelers who are literally on the go. RV travelers will find ample, well-marked RV parking at restaurants, tourist sites and stores, signage along Alaska highways to alert drivers to RV camping areas and private facilities with Internet access and activities to keep the whole family happy. Alaska State Park Campgrounds
Alaska State Parks in the Mat-Su with camping facilities include Denali State Park and Nancy Lake State Recreation Area. Smaller parks in the Mat-Su for tent and RV camping include the Matanuska River Park Campground in Palmer, Lake Lucille Park Campground in Wasilla, Little Susitna River Campground in Houston, Deshka River Campground, and Talkeetna River Park Campground. www.matsugov.us/RecServices/parks.cfm
Public Use Cabins
There are three public use cabins located at Byers Lake, Denali State Park; one at Matanuska Glacier State Recreation Site (Matanuska Glacier) and thirteen cabins at Nancy Lake State Recreation Area. Cabins are reserved, first come first serve. Visit www.dnr.state.ak.us for details and online reservations.
