It's Christmas in September this weekend at the Alaska State Fairgrounds, as the Alaska Chicks Vintage Market holiday event takes place Friday through Sunday.

Some of Alaska's trendiest small businesses, including upcyclers, artists, designers, apparel companies and vintage collectors attend the event every year. It's a great way to find unique items and support local artists and businesses, particularly at a time when they need the support the most. Admission is $5 for a weekend pass, and on Sunday there is free admission for all.

Due to Covid-related restrictions, the market is being held in the livestock pavilion (outdoors) so organizers encourage attendees to dress warmly. Traditionally, the event is held in Raven Hall but was moved outside this year to provide for social distancing.

In addition to the shopping, the Vintage Market has also become a foodie event. The Food Truck Fest is held in conjunction with the market, and this year more than 30 of the top food trucks from around Southcentral Alaska will be on the fairgrounds this weekend serving everything from barbecue to Thai food and everything in between.

The event kicks off Friday, September 18 from noon to 8 p.m. ($5 admission) and continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ($5 admission). The market concludes on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (free admission). There is ample parking that is free at the fairgrounds as well. Purchase your admission tickets online here.
