This Saturday, the Alaska State Fairgrounds features the Mighty Matanuska "Boo" Fest, celebrating craft beers from around Alaska.
The event - known better as the Mighty Matanuska Brewfest - features local breweries Arkose, Bearpaw River, Bleeding Heart, Last Frontier and Denali, along with Alaska brewers such as Resolution, Quake, Alaskan, Kassik's, Kenai River, Baranof, King Street and Glacier Brewhouse. They'll be joined by several West Coast and national brewers at the one-day event, which is from 6-10 p.m. This year, there will also be several cider makers represented, including Double Shovel Cider Co. from Anchorage.
While not as large as the Great Alaska Beer and Barleywine Festival in Anchorage, the Mighty Matanuska Brewfest has grown in popularity and has become one of the premier beer events in Alaska.
Because the brewfest coincides with Halloween weekend this year, the event also includes a costume contest. Agents of Karma take the stage at 7 p.m., and there is also food available for purchase.
Tickets are $35 each and include 20 3-ounce beer samples. Designated driver tickets are $10 per person and include a non-alcoholic beverage. Tickets are on sale at the Alaska State Fair's web site, as well as at Three Bears, Vagabond Blues and Purple Moose Espresso.
Remember to enjoy the festival responsibly and make sure you have a designated driver or take a taxi home.
