The Mat-Su Valley's newest "residents" may just be the cutest yet - so far, 14 new calves have been born at the Williams Reindeer Farm in Palmer, which is gearing up to open to the public in a few weeks.
The Williams Reindeer Farm has welcomed 14 calves to the farm so far this spring, with more calves being born every day. More than two dozen calves are expected to be born on the farm in total this spring. The cute calves join 80 reindeer at the farm, which is run by the Williams/Hardy family and is located at 5561 S. Bodenburg Butte Loop, just outside of Palmer. For now, people can follow the baby calves on the Williams Reindeer Farm Facebook page, but starting May 1, they can see the babies up close and personal, as the farm opens for the season seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This year marks a historical year for the farm, as it is celebrating its 30th anniversary as a family-run farm. Visitors to the farm get a 10-15 informational talk about reindeer and a cup of feed to hand-feed the reindeer in the pen. The farm also features Dolly the Bison, as well as elk, which can also be hand-fed by visitors.
Throughout the year, the Williams Reindeer Farm also hosts field trips from schools and organizations, as well as community events such as pumpkin patch and fall festival, and a hay maze and haunted house around Halloween.
