Some of the top professional bull riders in the country are coming to Palmer this Memorial Day weekend as part of a jam-packed lineup of rodeo events on the Alaska State Fairgrounds.

Alaska’s top rodeo contestants kick off the weekend Friday at 4 p.m. with the RAM Champions Tour Rodeo, featuring barrel racing, bull riding and team roping events. On Saturday starting at 11 a.m., the bull riders take center stage.

The event is part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association’s Xtreme Bulls tour, featuring 40 top national riders and some of Canada’s toughest bulls. It’s the northernmost event on the tour schedule. Who can last 8 seconds on the bull? We’ll find out Saturday, and they’ll have a chance to ride for five ounces of Bering Sea gold.

On Sunday, the Ram Champions Tour continues, starting at noon. The event concludes on Monday at noon with the Junior Rodeo, featuring Alaska’s top up and coming cowboys competing for state championships.

Rodeo isn’t the only reason to swing by the fairgrounds this weekend. Throughout the entire event, Golden Wheel Amusement has carnival rides set up, and there will be food vendors. On Saturday, don’t miss the live music throughout the day, ending with a special evening performance by William Michael Morgan and the Ken Peltier Band, one of Alaska’s top acts.
