The 58th Willow Winter Carnival gets under way this weekend, featuring a full three days of fun. The carnival continues next weekend as well, with most events taking place at the Willow Winter Carnival.
The carnival gets started with a bang, quite literally. On Friday, there is a fireworks display at 8 p.m. That follows the kick-off dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the coronation of the carnival king and queen at 7 p.m.
On the first full day of events, Saturday, there is something for everyone. The Earl Norris Sled Dog Race's first leg starts at 10 a.m. on Willow Lake. Following that, at 11 a.m., the Frostbite 5K race begins, as does the Homesteader events. At 1 p.m. is the hilarious outhouse races, which is exactly what it sound like - teams build outhouses on runners, and then push them down the course in a sprint to the finish.
On Sunday, the second leg of the Earl Norris begins at 10 a.m., followed by the Billy Taylor Citizens 5K Ski Race at 11 a.m. At 1 p.m., the snowshoe softball tournament begins, which is always a funny event. At 2 p.m., there is ice/snow bowling.
Throughout the first weekend of the carnival, there are several events taking place at the Willow Community Center, including a craft fair, kids games, performances by local bands, bingo and more.
Take a trip to Willow this weekend and enjoy one of the most unique carnivals you'll ever see. Pack warm and enjoy the weekend!
