Join us for an awesome hike up Gunsight Mountain in the Sheep Mountain area on July 19. This is a great hike to a high summit - 6,441 feet - we start at about 3,000 feet elevation. This hike is a repeat from last year but it was such a good hike we had to do it again this year.
This hike starts at a large gravel pit at Mile 114 of the Glenn Highway, just past Glacier Fan Creek. Park outside the gravel pit in the DOT right-of-way. A prominent landmark is Meekins Flying Service, which is directly across the highway from the DOT gravel pit. On a clear day views are totally epic. We will meet just outside gravel pit parking area at 10:30 a.m.
This is a sunshine only hike because of the terrain. We will provide updates if the weather changes and we have to cancel. Please bring all that you will need to make the hike enjoyable for you- snacks, water, rain gear, sun screen, trekking poles etc…
This hike is part of the Soles in the Backcountry 6 Peak Challenge Adventure Hiking Series.
