About the class: Many of our native plants are edible, and some have been used traditionally for medicine. Learn to identify them and how to tell them apart from plants that are not safe. Take a leisurely walk in the woods with naturalist emerita, Ute Olsson, for an introduction into what's edible, and what's not!

What to expect: We’ll be walking/hiking for about 2 hours. This class is about edible plant identification and how to forage sustainably. Please note we will not be harvesting while on the trail.

Is registration required? Yes. In order to maintain our small group size (max 10 participants) we ask that you register in advance.

About Ute: Ute Riesenkönig Olsson received a Master of Forestry from Duke University and a Master of Science in Ecological Studies from Colorado State University. She taught natural history to all ages at the Eagle River Nature Center for two decades before her retirement. Ute has a special interest in ethnobotany -- how humans have traditionally used plants in Alaska. Follow her on Instagram at Borealkraut.

A note on flexibility: The nature of adventuring outside requires some flexibility. We do our best to follow the schedule as outlined, but trail conditions, wildlife, etc. can all impact our plans. Please know if we need to shift plans your workshop coordinator will communicate with you in a timely manner. Safety is our priority and we use our best judgement when making trip adjustments.
