Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) is located on mile 79 of the scenic Seward Highway, just 40-minutes south of Anchorage in Portage Valley, surrounded by the breathtaking Chugach Mountain Range and Turnagain Arm Inlet. AWCC is a non-profit sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, education, research, and quality animal care. The sanctuary takes in injured and orphaned animals year-round and maintains over 200 acres of spacious habitats for animals to feel at home and display their natural “wild” behavior. It is common for visitors to see brown bears swimming, moose strutting, wood bison roaming, muskox playing, wolves posing, porcupines climbing, and more! Come enjoy over 200 acres of animal enclosures by touring our scenic 1.5-mile loop, accessible by foot, by bike, or by car, while learning about our resident wildlife. We look forward to seeing you at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and hope you enjoy your visit!
