The Knik River Valley is one of the Mat-Su Valley's hidden gems, and the recreation opportunities are endless.

The Knik River Valley is accessible by Knik River Road, off the Old Glenn Highway. At the end of the road is Knik River Lodge, which has amazing views of the Chugach Mountains and Knik Glacier.

The area is a popular spot for ATV adventures. Longer rides can start at the Jim Creek area and go all the way back to the glacier. Several companies offer guided tours in the area, but if you have your own ATV, it is an easily accessible ride - be ready for glacial silt though!

During the salmon runs, Eklutna Tailrace is a popular fishery that visitors can drive right up to. It feeds into Knik River, and because of its accessibility, it's very popular for families. The hatchery-fed fishery has one of the earliest runs of king salmon in the spring.

Knik River Road is also a great place for wildlife spotting. This summer, we saw countless moose and even three black bears along the road. Remember to respect the wildlife and keep a safe distance at all times however. Several migratory birds can also be found throughout the valley.

Throughout the region, companies offer helicopter tours to the glacier, as well as riverboat trips - getting you up close to the glacier.
