Mother's Day is always a special occasion, but for the Musk Ox Farm in Palmer, it has become a tradition that many in the community look forward to all year.
The Musk Ox Farm officially opens for the summer season on Mother's Day, for good reason - it's also an unveiling of the newest calves, which are born each spring. This year, there were two calves born on the farm - Muenster and Gouda. Every spring, a "naming theme" is used, and this year, it was "Cheese." Both of the cheese puff calves are doing well at the farm and are ready to meet their human public on Mother's Day for the first time. These cute little calves steal the show during the Mother's Day event every May!
The Musk Ox Farm makes it a whole day of fun. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., there will be select chutes available to visit the musk ox, learn from the interpretive guides and snacks are available. It is an "all-weather" event so dress accordingly. Mothers have free admission, while the admission for all others is a suggested donation to the farm, which is a non-profit organization.
The Musk Ox Farm opens its regular summer season on Monday, May 13, when their regular scheduled tours are available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week through the end of August.
